Watch Hulu outside the US

I've always been a sucker for American tv shows and movies, and therefore when Hulu was launched I was pretty excited. For those of you who are struggling to keep up, Hulu is a website much like YouTube, but is owned by News Corp and therefore carries copyrighted material. This means you can stream not only clips, but full TV shows and movies.

Hulu hosts shows from NBC, Fox, USA, Bravo, FX and Sci Fi amongst others, which means you get access to Arrested Development, The Office, 30 Rock (Milf Island!), Battlestar Galactica, House, Nip/Tuck and lots of others! If you're not a TV buff, the site is packed with movies as well, and if you take a look around you'll notice the tons of great material lying around. And the best part is there is no registration necessary, no spam, no commercials, it's legal and it's free!

Unfortunately, Hulu blocks everyone that doesn't have an American IP adress, and if you're not in the states, all you get while trying to access the content is an annoying errormessage letting you know you're not wanted.

I've been waiting for it to open worldwide, but it doesn't look like that's happening any time soon, so I did some googling looking for a back door to get in.

The trick is to use VPN software, which basicly acts as a middleman between your non-US internet connection and Hulu, making it look you are surfing in the states. While this all sounds über geeky and complicated, it's actually dead simple.

All you have to do is download and install HotSpot Shield, fire it up, and head for www.hulu.com. It didn't work the first time I ran the software, but after I reconnected it worked like a charm and I've seen 3 episodes of The Loop without any glitches.

Update

This method should in theory work with www.pluggedin.com as well. Although I haven't been able to verify this yet (I just read about it at school and don't have my HotSpot Shield available). Pluggedin.com seems like a cool new site trying to be the Hulu of musicvideos. You can read more about it over at TechCrunch.

Edit1: Har NRK brutalt undervurdert populariteten i dette? Jeg har en 10mbit SDSL og sliter hardt med aa komme inn paa nettsiden. Paa bakgrunn av hvor GENIAL denne sesongaapningen var er det ikke utenkelig at paagangen paa nettsidene er enorm.

Edit3: Mulig denne siden ikke er utviklet med tanke paa Mac. Bildet fungerte greit en stund, men alle inputmuligheter rundt om paa siden (kommentarer/spoersmal) fungerte daarlig (Les: ikke i det hele tatt), elementer paa siden dupliserte seg selv og flyttet seg rundt paa siden, og endte til slutt opp med aa krasje FireFox fullstendig. Foeles litt haaploest ut at jeg nok en gang maatte bruke 5 minutter paa aa komme inn.

Alt i alt: Spennende konsept, ett MessTV/Sonen/ETC som funker, uten sammenligning foroevrig - annet enn scetting. Spennende aa se slike forsoek, men jeg vil tro at mangelen paa en soemloes opplevelse gjoer at dette begrenser interessen for mange (i lengden). Fikk du ikke sett det, eller har store problemer med aa se det naa, vil det vises paa NRKs nett tv fra imorgen. Ett lignende opplegg vil skje ogsaa neste torsdag!

Legendary Three 6 Mafia, spearheaded by rapper & producer duo DJ Paul and Juicy J, packs up their Oscar and moves to Hollywood to make it big. This might not be the most intellectual entertainment you've witnessed, but as far as reality TV goes, this is some funny shit. Unfortunately, this show is under the radar at the moment, so it can be a bit tricky getting your hands on it if you don't live in the US.

Bwahaha, my favorite badass is back, with the vengeance comparable to nothing. The intensity of this show is unprecedented in TV history, if you haven't seen this series, start now! The Sopranos..? Bah, I'd rather root for the "good" guys...

Nip/Tuck returns!

More good news for TV lovers. Nip/Tuck returns to the screens September 04. Ryan Murphy has announced that season 5 will include 22 episodes of Shawn & Christian's adventures in LA. If you haven't given Nip/Tuck the attention it deserves, now's your chance.

Nip/Tuck

So I just finished the last episode of Season 4, and I got to admit, this show is definitely up there with my biggest favorites.

As I'd previously only seen random episodes of this show, I thought it was just a cheesy portrayal of assholes. But after I watched it season by season chronologically, I really got it, and the show is all but superficial. An excellent cast, with great dialogue and a thrilling storyline makes this show a testament to good great television!
